Upper Straits Lake is a beautiful, private, all sports lake in Oakland County, MI. There are two other lakes downstream; Middle Straits Lake and Lower Straits Lake. Upper Straits Lake has a max depth of 96 ft. and a total area of 323 Acres according to the Michigan DNR's lake map.
There is plenty to do on Upper Straits Lake including visiting sand bars by boat, observing Upper Straits Clean Lake Association's volleyball in the sandbar, kayaking the various natural coves, stand up paddle boarding (SUP), swimming at our beach (if you don't mind the soft bottom), floating around our natural cove in a tube, and visiting the Orchard Lake Nature Sanctuary.
LaPlaya has one lake lot which is shared by all residents, and 7 lakefront homes. For full details on lake lot usage, including the kayak rack, please see the Bylaws/Covenants.
A dam constructed in 2019-2020 by the Upper Straits Clean Lake Association (USCLA) separates the Upper Straits Lake and Middle Straits Lake connection at Green Lake Rd. Boats cannot pass among the chain of lakes. In 2020, there was a proposal for an augmentation water well which the LaPlaya HOA BOD voted in favor to maintain lake levels.
